Veronica Lillias Nagala

This painting by Veronica depicts various traditional bush foods, that traditionally women collected. If present, the U shapes represent women, at their side are their wana or digging stick and coolamon (large wooden dish used for carrying items), and the circles represent the site of the camp, a ceremonial site or a water or rock hole where water collects. The background dotting symbolise the variations in the country. The possible foods represented are tinka (goannas), tinka ngampu (goanna eggs), ipalu (bush banana), maku (witchetty grubs), arnguli (bush plum), tjupi (honey ants), kampurarpa (bush raisins or tomatoes), wayanu (quondongs) and ili (bush figs).
